I’ve compiled a list of all of Kyoto Animation’s works! A treasure trove of masterpieces including Haruhi, K-ON, Euphoria, and more!

Hyouka

This is an anime based on the novel “The Classics Club” series by Honobu Yonezawa.
It is an everyday mystery in which the hero, Hotaro, and the heroine, Chitanda Eru, who joined the Classics Club, solve small mysteries hidden in their daily lives.
Eru’s habit of saying, “I’m curious,” and her honest cuteness made her popular, and she became an exceptional hit for a mystery anime.

Since this is a genre, there are almost no flashy incidents or exciting tension in the story, and the main focus is on human drama.
The conflicts of boys and girls who are troubled by their own talents and comparisons with others are depicted with Kyoto Animation’s typical delicate direction.

Kyoto Animation has produced various hits in the past, and a sequel to this work is particularly desired, but no new work has been produced since the OVA that came with the third volume of the comic version released in 2013.

In 2009, Kyoto Animation launched the “Kyoto Animation Grand Prix,” a contest for entertaining works.
In 2009, Kyoto Animation launched the “Kyoto Animation Grand Prix” to solicit entries in three categories: novels, manga, and scenarios.

As the first of these, this work was made into an anime in 2012.
It is a romantic comedy that depicts the clumsy and pure love story between the main character Yuta, who was formerly suffering from chuunibyou, and the heroine Rokka Takanashi, who is currently suffering from chuunibyou.
Although the work has a strong comedy flavor, Rokka’s emotions are portrayed with great care.

With the success of this work, Kyoto Animation began to focus on adapting works that they had discovered on their own.

 Tamako Market

An original anime broadcasted in 2013 by the main staff of K-ON.
This is Kyoto Animation’s first original work since the MUNTO series, and its first pure TV anime.

The main character is Tamako Kitashirakawa, the daughter of a rice cake shop owner who meets Della, a bird that speaks human language, in this humanistic comedy.
It is a nostalgic work that is heartwarming from beginning to end, while placing importance on the psychological portrayal of the characters as is typical of Kyoto Animation.

The sequel “Tamako Love Story,” released in 2014, is different from the TV series in that it is a story about Tamako’s love life, as the title suggests, and was well received.

The 2nd Kyoto Animation Grand Prize Encouragement Award “High Speed! is the original story of this anime.
This is a coming-of-age story about the handsome male members of the Iwatobi High School swimming club as they devote themselves to their club activities.
This is Kyoto Animation’s first work for women.

Kyoto Animation has been known for the efforts of its female staff, including director Naoko Yamada, and for quite some time, people have been asking for Kyoto Animation to make a work for women.
In response to these expectations, Kyoto Animation started broadcasting in 2013, and has won many fans with its beautiful drawings of underwater, water surface, and well-trained male characters, which are unique to swimming anime.
It has become a popular series with three seasons of TV series and four theatrical versions, and is still running as of 2020.

Kyoukai no Kanata

This anime is based on “Kyoukai no Kanata,” which won the Encouragement Award at the 2nd Kyoto Animation Grand Prix.
It is a dark fantasy in which Akihito, a boy with an immortal body of dreams, meets Mirai Kuriyama, a girl who is a cross-dresser who defeats dreams, and Mirai, who was initially intent on defeating Akihito, gradually gets to know him and eventually starts to cooperate.

Although this work is introduced as a dark fantasy, it is also a boy-meets-girl story with a hero who has a fetish for glasses and a heroine with glasses, so it is not serious all the time.
Kyoto Animation doesn’t make many battles, but this is a rare anime with beautifully drawn battles.

Amagi Brilliant Park

This is an anime work that aired in 2014, based on a novella by the author of Full Meta, Mr. Soji Gato.
Set in the dying theme park “Amagi Brilliant Park”, this is a daily comedy about the narcissistic protagonist Seiya, who is entrusted with the task of rebuilding the park, and the cast of the theme park.
It is described as a romantic comedy with a black style, but to the extent that it has been animated, the blackness and romantic elements are moderate, giving the impression that it is a fun comedy to watch.

Since the anime adaptation of Fullmeta, Mr. Gaito has been in close contact with Kyoto Animation, and has written scripts for Haruhi and Lucky Star.
He also worked on the series composition of Hyouka.

Sound! Euphonium

出典 : Amazon.co.jp

This is a group of anime adaptations of a series of novels by Ayano Takeda, with the first season airing in 2015 and the second season in 2016.
In 2018, a spin-off movie “Liz and the Blue Bird” will be released, and in 2019, “Sound! Euphonium The Movie Our Promise A Brand New Day” will be released, which depicts the story of Kumiko Oumae and her friends after they enter their second year. Euphonium ~The Vow’s Finale~”, which depicts the story of Kumiko Oumae and her friends after they become second-year students, will be released in 2019.

It is an ensemble drama that delicately depicts the emotional state of the members of the Kita Uji High School brass band.
This work is the culmination of KyoAni’s belief in “telling stories through pictures”, and this work about a brass band is even richer in sound.
The psychological depiction of the characters has become even more difficult to understand, and a single expression on a character’s face in a scene can generate a variety of thoughts, making it one of the most fun things to talk about with other fans after watching it.

Myriad Colors Phantom World

出典 : Amazon.co.jp

This 2016 anime is based on the 4th Kyoto Animation Grand Prize Encouragement Award “Phantom World”.
Set in a world where a special virus has caused ghosts called “phantoms” to become recognizable, this battle-action series depicts the battles between people with abilities.
In the anime, the comedic elements are generally thicker, and the serious elements of the original story are greatly reduced.
