Season 3 of the hugely popular manga “Attack on Titan”, which is still being serialized in Magazine, started in July 2018.
Since there’s been a bit of a gap since the last episode aired, we’ve compiled a synopsis of the show up to the second season, as well as some foreshadowing you might be interested in!
Synopsis so far
Eight years later, the Super Titan strikes again, but is saved by Eren Jaeger, who has been transformed into a Titan.
Eight years later, the Colossal Titan strikes again, but he escapes thanks to the efforts of Eren Jaeger, who has been transformed into a Titan. Eren later joins the Survey Corps, whose main mission is to investigate outside the walls, but he is attacked by the Female Titan on his first trip outside the walls.
The intelligent Armin discovers that Eren’s fellow trainee, Annie Leonhart, has the ability to transform into the Female Titan, and the Scout Regiment sets out to capture her, but they fail and are forced into battle once again.
Once again, Eren, who has been transformed into a Titan, plays a key role in the victory, but Annie has fallen into a deep sleep.
However, the 104th students, suspected of conspiring with Annie, are placed under house arrest under the protection of fully equipped soldiers.
In the meantime, a large number of Titans and the “Beast Giants,” a strange species, appeared in Wall Rose and attacked the 104th Training Corps and the soldiers guarding them.
As the soldiers were being eaten alive one by one, Ymir transformed into a Titan in front of the cornered soldiers and responded to them.
Thanks to the reinforcements and Yumir’s efforts, they were able to escape with their wounds, but during the retreat, Reiner and Bertolt told Eren that their true identities were the Armor Titan and the Colossal Titan, and they entered the battle.
They succeeded in defeating the Armor Titan Reiner, but were defeated by the Super Titan Bertolt, who took Eren away from them.
However, thanks to Erwin’s scheming and Eren’s awakening to the power to control Titans, they succeed in retrieving Eren safely, albeit at great cost.
What we’ve learned so far
Existence of humans who can transform into Titans
In the first season, it was revealed that Annie, who was a trainee at the same time as Eren and Armin, had the power to transform into a Titan, and that she was a human, but unlike Eren who also had the ability to transform into a Titan, she was a human who gave her side to the Titans.
In Season 2, it is newly revealed that Reiner, Bertolt, and Ymir are humans who have the same ability to transform into Titans as Eren and Annie.
Reiner and Bertolt have revealed themselves to be the ones who were controlling the Armor Titan and the Colossal Titan respectively.
Who are the giants?
In the second season, it was revealed that the Titans are former humans.
When humans are given some kind of drug, they become unintelligent giants.
It is also implied that the inhabitants of Ragaco Village, Connie’s hometown, were turned into Titans by some method.
The World Outside the Walls
It has been suggested that Reiner and Bertolt were not originally born within the walls, but came from outside the walls.
In fact, they were moving towards the outside of the wall when they abducted Eren.
However, what is waiting for them outside the wall has yet to be told.
