The popular manga “The Magician’s Wife” by Koré Yamazaki, began serialization in Monthly Comic Blade in November 2013. (It is currently serialized in Monthly Comic Garden.)
The story of the joint life of Chise Hatri, a red-haired girl of unfortunate background, and Elias Ainsworth, an impersonal wizard who took her as his apprentice and wife, was a hot topic from the beginning of the series, and when the first volume was released in April 2014, it immediately sold out and was reprinted on the same day.
Since then, it became such a long-running hit that the abbreviation “Mahoyome” became a fixture, and within three months of its release, it had sold more than 250,000 copies.
When the second volume was released, the total number of copies of the two books reached 600,000, and after that it continued to sell at an astonishing rate, and before the third volume was released, the number of copies exceeded 1 million.
Then in March 2016, an anime adaptation project was announced.
However, at this time, it was not a TV anime adaptation, but rather the production of an OVA, “Magician’s Wife: Hoshi Waiting for the Stars,” which would be included with the comics.
This OVA is a completely original animation based on the original plan by Yamazaki Kore.
The original story, which was a prequel to the main story, was visualized before the original, and then the main story was made into a TV anime again.
That TV anime aired for two cool seasons from October 2017 to March 2018 and was well received.
And the average sales of all four volumes of the Blu-ray and DVD (discs), which can be used as a benchmark for the second season, reached over 6,000 copies.
The production line of 5,000 copies, which was once considered to be the production line for the second season, has been cleared with ease, and it can be said that sales are at a level where a sequel project can be launched with a high probability.
Also, the difference in sales between the first and final volume was around 1,000 copies, a mere 15% decrease.
This is a lesser drop than works like Jewel Country and Karakai Gude no Takagi-san, which aired at the same time and were hits on the same scale.
It can be seen that the number of people who quit the show during the show was small and that the anime had a high level of fan satisfaction.
Looking at these data, it can be said that there is no problem with the second season production, at least in terms of disc sales.
The effect on the original story is….

As mentioned above, the original comic on which The Magician’s Wife is based sold highly before the anime adaptation, and as of March 2017, when the TV anime adaptation was announced, it had sold 4 million copies.
At the time, volume 7 had just been released, so that meant an average of 570,000 copies of the volume.
This is a pretty big number for a manga work before the anime adaptation.
The background of this work being so successful is based on the quality and fun of the work, but it is also thought that there was also the effect of advertising on the internet.
For a while after the first volume of the comics was released, the online advertisement of “The Sorcerer’s Wife” was displayed quite frequently.
With this, it can be inferred that the series had gained a lot of recognition before it was made into a TV anime.
Because of this, there was not much of an increase in original sales due to the anime broadcast.
By the time volume 10 was released in September 2018, the total number of copies of the series was 6 million.
Considering the fact that several novels, guidebooks, and other related books had been released since July 2017, the volume average would be little changed.
Of course, we can’t use this data to declare that there was no effect of the anime adaptation.
It is difficult to maintain such a high level of sales as the series becomes longer, and it would have been possible because of the acquisition of new fans due to the anime adaptation.
However, it is also true that there was no noticeable increase in the data.
When will the stock build up?

Disk sales of “The Sorcerer’s Wife” had reached a point where it was possible to make a second season, but in fact, right after it aired, it was said that there wouldn’t be a second season for a while.
The reason for this was obvious, there was simply no stock of the original work.
As of March 2018, when the first season ended in March 2018, the original comics had been released in volume 9.
That volume 9 contained up to the 45th episode, “Live and let live.”, but the last episode of the first season of the anime, episode 24, was also subtitled “Live and let live.”, as evidenced by the fact that the last episode of the first season of the anime, episode 24, was also subtitled “Live and let live.”, so the last part of the volume 9 was made into a video.
In other words, the first season of the anime digested all of the original work at the time, and there was no stock.
After all, volume 9 of the comics was released on March 24, the last episode of the first anime season aired at midnight on March 24, and the May 2018 issue of Comic Garden, which featured the 45th episode, was released on April 5, 2018.
It was a special situation where the magazine was the slowest to publish, which should have been the earliest, and the stock was literally zero and empty.
Even if they were to produce the second season in one cool season, they would need at least 4 volumes worth of episodes.
It was only natural for fans to declare that there would not be a second season for the time being.
A year and a half has passed since then, and as of January 2020, the original comics of Mahoyome have been released to volume 12.
If volume 13 is released, it will reach 4 volumes, so we’re almost at the point where we’re at the point where we’ve accumulated enough stock for one cool volume.
That volume 13 will be released in March 2020.
Part 65: “Conscience does make cowards of us all.IV. It is expected to be included up to and including the Academy Arc.
However, at this point in time, the end of the academy episode is not in sight and there is no end in sight, so it is unthinkable that they will make an anime until this point.
Therefore, it is safe to say that even if there will be a second season, it will be a long time coming and there will be no anime adaptation of the main story in 2020.
