The latest title in the Pokémon series, Pokémon Sword and Shield, had been attracting a lot of attention from Pokémon fans even before its release, and it met expectations and became a hot topic with its beautiful graphics, powerful battle system utilizing the Dymax system, protagonist with rich expressions and dress-up, unique characters, and deep story.
Fans were wondering if a minor version of the popular Pokémon Sword and Shield would be released, but to their surprise, the game was released on January 10, 2020 with paid additional content called “Expansion Pass”.
In the past, minor changes to the Pocket Monsters series (Emerald, Platinum, etc.) and sequels (Black 2, White 2) were often released as new software that allowed players to play the game completely from the beginning and relive the main storyline with additional elements.
This time, however, the Expansion Pass is released as additional downloadable content, so you can continue your adventures as the same main character with the Pokémon you traveled with in the Galar region. It’s great to be able to travel to new places with your beloved party again. In this article, I’ll introduce you to the two new stages in the Galar region that you can explore with the Expansion Pass!
Part 1: Isolated Island of Armor: Training and Encounters on a New Island
After its release on June 17, 2020, the new area you can go to is Yoroi Island, also known as Armor Island in the title. In the Yoroi Jima, like the Wild Area, the Pokémon that appear in the area change depending on the climate, and you can have Dymax Raid Battles in Pokémon nests. Just exploring the new map is sure to be fun.
In the added story, you will meet new characters and Pokémon that you have never seen before. There are unique characters that have never been seen before, but this time I’ll introduce you to one of the most impressive characters, Mustard, who is the main character in the story of the isolated island of armor!
Mustard is an elderly trainer who teaches at a dojo in Yoroi Island. He is the former Pokémon League Champion, and has held the title for a record 18 years. He’s a strong Pokémon trainer with a track record that’s hard to imagine from his loose appearance and manner of speaking. He was also Dande’s mentor in the past, and tells us a little about Dande’s episodes before he became a champion.
His Trainer’s Card, which you can get by progressing through the story, will tell you about his past as a champion. You’ll have to play through it to find out!
The new Legendary Pokémon you can meet on the isolated island of Armor is Dakhma.
It looks like a cute little bear, but it’s a serious Pokémon that trains hard every day.
Dakhma is a legendary Pokémon with an evolutionary system that has few examples to date. Depending on the choice you make in the game, it will evolve into either the Ichigeki form or the Rengeki form of Uraos. It’s hard to decide which one to choose, since they come in different types and have different moves: the Ichigeki form is a Gradient and Akuma type, while the Rengeki form is a Gradient and Water type.
Although Wraith is a Legendary Pokémon, it can be used in Ranked Matches and official tournaments. The key point here is that Wuraos has the same icon on the selection screen regardless of its Form.
This means that even if you see a Wraith in your opponent’s party, you won’t be able to tell which Form it is. It’s a deep Pokémon game, but one of the most important aspects of playing is to be able to recognize the form of your opponent’s Wuraos.
