The relationship between Adachi and Shimamura does not change dramatically in this work, but if I were to pick up one major turning point, it would be the scene where Adachi confesses his feelings to Shimamura in the episode “Flight” in volume 6.
The two of them go to a summer festival to watch fireworks, and the moment the fireworks go off, he shouts “Dai, suki, da! It was a surprisingly dramatic scene considering their daily life up to now.
However, up until this point, Adachi’s heart was already full and saturated with Shimamura, so when the situation of the festival and fireworks gave him a little boost, all he could do was overflow.
In this sense, the confession was inevitable, and for both Adachi and Shimamura, it was a forced event with no way out.
While Adachi confesses passionately despite his cool appearance, Shimamura calmly digests her feelings.
To go out as friends and to go beyond that.
Adachi draws a line between the two with the words, “I want you to see only me,” and Shimamura also judges those words as a boundary.
After much deliberation, Shimamura decides to accept Adachi’s wishes, and the two start dating.
The difference in consciousness between Shimamura and Adachi is quite apparent in this matter.

Adachi, on the other hand, never had any conflicts with the idea of girls dating other girls, and was just excited to be going out with Shimamura.

Adachi understands this, and remarks, “Adachi doesn’t care about the people around her at all.
However, it seems that early Adachi must have cared to a certain extent, and after she became obsessed with Shimamura, she actually stopped caring.
In that sense, the most striking difference between early Adachi and later Adachi is their stance on “going out”.
If early Adachi had been confessed to by Shimamura, the relationship might have been completely different.

It is understandable that some people regret the early Adachi, but enjoying her transition is one of the best parts of this work.
That’s why we can say that the anime adaptation gives us the pleasure of seeing the early Adachi again.
