He used to work as a dragon catcher on another ship.
He loves dragons in more ways than one. He can detect the approach of a dragon by its scent before he sees it, and can (presumably) tell the emotions of a dragon by its scent.
Of course he loves to eat dragons and cook them himself.

Summary
Dragons of the Drifting Dragons tells the story of dragons, the “dragon catchers” (Orochi tori) who hunt them for commercial purposes on a daily basis.
This manga work has a respect for Ghibli’s work, but with a completely different worldview.
It depicts action scenes with the dragons in the sky, recipes for delicious dragon dishes, and the daily life and drama of the crew of the Quin Zaza, who live as dragon catchers.
This popular work will be made into a winter anime for TV in 2020.
