Second quarter sales down, but stable and highly rated

The second season of Ms. Takagi, which aired in the summer of 2018, did not record as high a sales figure as the first season.
The first week sales of the first volume were about 2,900 copies, which was about 60% of the first volume of the first season (5,000 copies in the first week).
The anime disc market has been very severe in recent years, and there have been a lot of cases where sales have dropped dramatically in the second season, so this can’t be helped.
However, “Ms. Takagii” shows its underlying strength from this point on.
It increased sales in the first week of the second volume, and maintained sales of about 3,000 copies for the rest of the season.
In a world where many works have lost their sales after the second volume, even after the second season when the fan base has been solidified, “Ms. Takagi” showed an outstanding sense of stability.
It seems that the strong sales after the second volume were due in no small part to the last half of the series, especially the content of the final episode.
Compared to the first season, the second season of “Ms. Takagi” has more episodes where Ms. Takagi aggressively attacks Nishikata, and the depiction of romantic feelings is more intense.
Ms. Takagi’s overflowing love for Nishikata and Mr. Nishikata’s cute reaction to Ms. Takagi’s onslaught is more pronounced than in the first season, especially from the middle of the season onwards, which was highly appreciated.
In the final episode, the summer festival date between Ms. Takagi and Mr.Nishikata, which was not depicted in the original story, was depicted in an original episode, and ended with the content that fans of the original story were very satisfied with.
This final episode was broadcasted after the first volume of the disc was released.
Because of the viewers who decided to buy the disc after watching the final episode, the second volume sold well. (Probably Volume 1 is also selling slowly.)

Crowdfunding for VR animation adaptation fails to reach goal……
This isn’t the third season of the anime, but did you know that there was actually a new anime project already in the works for Ms. Takagi?
In September 2019, as the second season of the anime is nearing the end of its run, a crowdfunding (CF) has been conducted to create a new anime, “Teasing Good Ms. Takagi VR,” which is billed as a “next generation VR animation production project that allows you to simulate Ms. Takagi’s teasing”.
The original creator, Mr. Soichiro Yamamoto, has commented on the project and has offered a signed copy of the original picture as a bonus.
Speaking of VR anime commercials, “Spice and Wolf” has successfully raised more than 41 million yen through the CAMPFIRE service in the past.
The target for “Ms. Takagi VR” was 15 million yen.
However, the final amount of support (……) was just over 12 million yen, which was not enough to reach the goal.
Of course, raising 12 million yen in support is an amazing feat.
However, with Ms. Takagi’s high profile and popularity, I can’t help but feel that he deserves to raise even more money.
I can think of several reasons why we didn’t reach our goal.
First of all, they started the project while the anime was still airing.
The fans were so excited about the second season, but in the middle of it all, they said, “We’re going to make a VR anime! That being said, it’s no surprise that it doesn’t generate much interest.
It would have been better to launch with the anime airing over and with fans hungry for more, which would have led to better results.
Next is the return benefit.
It is good that even with inexpensive support, you can get some original perks such as an “original t-shirt”, but the key visuals have not been released.
This makes it difficult to visualize and motivate people to support the project.
The fact that Yamamoto-sensei’s work has only returned high amounts of money may be another reason why it’s hard for fans to reach out to him.
The fact that the support platform was initially limited to Oculus Quest is also a negative.
A month later, the addition of Oculus Rift and HTC VIVE was announced, but it feels like a late start.
As you can see, “Ms’Takagi VR” is an attractive project in itself, but as a CF project, there were a number of problems, and just because it didn’t reach the target amount doesn’t mean that the demand for the “Ms. Takagi” anime is not going down.

During the second season, it was announced before volume 10 was released, which was just barely enough for stock, so if a third season is going to happen, the announcement might be made in March when volume 13 is released.
In that case, fall 2020 to winter 2021 would seem to be the shortest time for the show to air.

What about the anime adaptation of (former) Ms. Takagi’s “Teasing Good”?

As mentioned above, the stock of the main “Ms. Takagi” episode has not yet accumulated, so the odds of a third season airing within 2020 are relatively low.
So what about the spinoff “The (Former) Ms. Takagi in a Good Manner,” which is drawn by Mifumi Inaba and depicts the post-marriage story of Mr. Takagi and Mr. Nishikata?
In fact, it’s quite possible.
First of all, as far as popularity goes, (the original) has been an exceptional hit for a spinoff, and its sales have reached a level that would allow it to be adapted into an anime on its own.
It is also noteworthy that none of the episodes that are the basis of the (original) worldview, such as “Memories” and “Nishikata” in the main series, have been adapted into anime.
In particular, “Memories” is a drawn-out episode that has become a hot topic on the internet, but it has been dutifully passed over.
Maybe there was a plan from the beginning to make the (original) into an anime, and the plan is to bring this episode to …… for its introduction.
It’s just a guess, but it’s possible that (the original) will be adapted into a video before the third season airs.
There may be a budding of another medium, such as an OVA adaptation instead of a TV anime.
