Arata and Kei are too capable and boring! Thorough comparison with past protagonists

Together they are as capable as Kogami and Tsunemori

Arata and Kei’s title of “rookie inspector” inevitably reminds me of Zhu from the first season.
Although she was capable at the time, she was unable to control Kogami Shinya and the other “hound” enforcers, and it was a constant struggle.

In contrast,Arata and Kei know how to deal with the enforcers from the start, and they don’t seem to be struggling.
Although they were clearly not in a welcoming mood at first, the elderly Hatsuroki Tenma and Irie Kazumichi, who was from the disposal compartment, seemed to have broken down completely before long while working with the two.
This is due in large part to the presence of Arata, who is also a class-A mentalist.

Arata is a friendly and cheerful person, and he can easily read other people’s mental states.
It’s unclear to what extent his facial expressions and actions are purely natural and to what extent they are calculated, but it’s clear that the innocent way he treats people has made the relationship between Tenma and Irie a little more rounded.
Especially since Irie, who is often paired up with Shakira, has a frivolous but companionable personality that seems to work quite well with the aloof Shakira.

And in contrast, Kei, who appears to be cool and theoretical but is actually prone to emotion, is also an important part of the enforcer’s unity.
He looks similar to Nobumoto Ginosa in the first season.
He is the leader of the first section, and the fact that they are very different in appearance and content is another thing they have in common.

Ginoza had a hard time controlling his emotions because his own father and his best friend were enforcers, but Kei has no ties to the officer, so he doesn’t seem to be as hard on him as Ginoza is.
It was at the beginning that he sometimes ignored orders, but the impression is that he gained sympathy for Tenma by showing his human side, such as when he couldn’t stand the “un-Shibula-like” slander being hurled at him by his own people and reached out to them.

What they both have in common is that they are not stubborn, as they affirm Sibylla but are not devoted to her.
Compared to the rookie Akane, or the young Chief Shimotsuki, they seem to be much more relaxed.

In terms of combat, Arata and Kei are also quite good.
They are indeed inferior to Cunning, who had all the brains, physical abilities, skills, and gallantry, and could do almost the same thing as Arata’s mental trace, but when you combine the advantages of Arata, who has a calm and collected mind and amazing physical abilities, and kei, who has the combat skills and gallantry that only a former soldier can have and is not afraid of his superiors, they are comparable to Cunning.

It’s safe to say that the reason why they are so capable of standing out despite being newcomers is because of their excellent chemistry.

The big difference is the “cuteness”

Aratau and Kei are not as taut as the first season protagonist, Cunning, and the phenomenal growth of Akane in the second season.
It’s not …… because Arata and Kei don’t live as impatient as Cunning & Akane, but there’s another reason.

They have something that 1st term Cunning and 2nd term Akane do not.
It’s cuteness.

As for Shake, there is cuteness in most of his actions.
He always acts cheerful in the car when traveling with Kei and his enforcers, and he never loses his calm demeanor during the investigation.
Even when they are training together at Kei’s house, he is relaxed and relaxed in a relaxed position.

Shaking’s smile is always soft and friendly, with a smile that brings his friendliness to the fore.
Even in serious scenes, she is able to release the tension of the scene, but still manages to be charming enough not to break the tension.
It’s no wonder fans say she’s cute.

On the other hand, Kei, who at first glance seems to be a character who is far from cute, is in fact a person who is cute enough.
In contrast to Arata, who is somewhat superhuman and sometimes doesn’t feel human even though he acts so cheerfully, Kei is noticeably warm even when he’s trying to be cool.
In particular, the smile he gives to Shakira seems even vulnerable.

And the one thing they both have in common is that they have a sense of danger.
Kougami and Akane also have a sense of danger because they are driven by their beliefs, but it’s a completely different type of instability.

Shake is a side effect of “mental tracing”, a level of consciousness down.
His Mental Trace is a cheat-grade ability, but he has the nasty problem of tracing the consciousness of even the dead, which makes it extremely dangerous in the absence of the presence of Kei as a lifeline.

However, if that’s all there is to it, it’s a common composition of “psychic powers and side effects”, but this mental tracing seems to accumulate a load on the brain and can be fatal to the situation if overused.
Shaking’s mother ultimately chooses to euthanize him due to a genetic disorder, but if his mental trace is a power acquired through genetics, he could even repeat his mother’s tragedy.

In Kei’s case, the problem is that his environment is one in which being a naturalized Russian immigrant could be a factor in the deterioration of his hue.
Due to the long period of national isolation in Japan, discrimination and prejudice against foreigners was still present, and in fact, it was the reason for his house arrest in episode 3.
Their emotional nature makes them seem like they are carrying a bomb inside.

These two dangers are cute at the same time.
People who are too perfect or too capable are inevitably seen as not being cute.
That’s exactly what happened with Akane in the second season.

Arata and Kei are never too competent and boring.

Summary

In the first two episodes, they were all about competence, but gradually, things like their danger and weaknesses were revealed, which in turn made them more appealing.
They have different personalities than Kougami and Akane, and they’ve already been embraced by the fans, so they’re two guys who can drive the story well enough as psychopathic protagonists!
