Third season of “Non non biyori” is set! What’s great about this popular daily life anime! What is the nature of everyday life? We’ve tested it.

We have to have an event because we have to be alone

However, there are some events that can happen because you “have no choice but to be alone”.
No matter how much you don’t have anywhere to go, if you’re too busy to do anything at home, you’ll probably do something like “wander around”.

For example, in the first season, episode 4, “Summer Vacation Has Begun”, Renge is lying on the porch of her house.
As he was wandering around outside, perhaps because he was bored, he meets a girl, Honoka, who was returning home.
This is an event that was born because he has no choice but to be alone. It means that some events occur because you have too much time on your hands.

If you are always in touch or have a place to go, it’s possible that you may have played with a certain member or gone to a certain place and never met Honoka.

In our daily lives, events to meet people and do things with them are structured by school events and festivals, and even in real life, we often kill time by organizing events in the form of appointments and schedules.

By using the rural environment of the country, which is cut off from the outside world, and by making it difficult to organize such events, it is our actual daily life itself that we try to face “leisure” and move the “nothing happens” daily life.

The silence of the countryside

Back to Honoka and Renge’s story.
They played for a few days in a row, but Honoka left town abruptly without telling Renge. When Renge is told of this at her grandmother’s house, she freezes for over 40 seconds (in playback time) on her doorstep and bursts into tears. Again, the rural setting comes into play in this scene.

What would happen if this were in a busy city or residential area?
Renge is still in the first grade, so she might not be able to resist crying because she is still in the first grade.
However, what about “Renge leaving Honoka’s grandmother’s house”?
If you are in the city or a residential area, the first thing that will distract the brick’s attention (which may be gratifying for the brick) is the fact that the brick’s attention will be distracted. With your feet floating in shock, you could have gone to the park to play on the swings or go to the candy store, which would have been a distracting act.

A country road, on the other hand, is a different story.
Renge has to deal with Honoka’s departure and the suddenness with which the goodbye has come, all alone on the almost empty journey home.
As a first grader, Renge may not even have the strength to handle this. Nevertheless.

And the viewer is shown head-on just how big of a deal it is for Renge.

As soon as the grandmother closes the door, the sound of the cicadas disappears and the quiet, sad background music that seems to be in line with Renge’s mind is played. It would be a description of the shock, “I can’t even hear the sound of the cicadas”.
After Renge cries, as she leaves, the sound of cicadas comes into the scene, as if she remembered them.
Renge, having come back to herself for a little while, is described as having no choice but to return home alone, wrapped in grief, in a place where there is nothing but the noisy voices of the cicadas.

In this way, although it is a daily life series, the characters don’t just capture the events of “trying to do something”, but rather the “countryside” environment, and the way it captures the inner workings of human beings in their daily lives is a characteristic that is not often seen in other daily life series.

It often happens in real life that an event that is meant to be a “play with Honoka” event turns into a “nothing happened” event where you didn’t get to play with Honoka.

Summary

By nature, everyday life is quiet and there are probably more hours when nothing is happening.
If there is always something happening every day, then the homework picture diary would have been extremely easy to write.
In fact, the characters seem to be rather bored.
Nothing happens. That’s why they go looking for something to do, and they try to do something.
Everyday life is inherently quiet and people don’t talk that much. That glimpse into the essence of everyday life was the charm of “Nonononobiyori”!
