Hockey is often associated with ice hockey, but field hockey (ground hockey) has been adopted as a sport in the Summer Olympics.
Although there is no manga dealing with hockey that has been made into an anime, Ai Morinaga’s “Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club” has been serialized for more than 5 years and has a high level of fame.

Rugby

Rugby has exploded in popularity in the wake of the 2019 World Cup, but up until then it hadn’t been treated much in anime and manga.
Among them, “ALL OUT!”, which even became an anime, is a unique and popular work. is a unique and popular work.
In recent years, “Tri-Nights” to be broadcasted in 2019 and “number24” to be broadcasted in the winter of 2020, the number of anime for women is increasing.

Ping-Pong

Table tennis is quite popular in Japan, and medals are expected at the Olympics.
The most successful film about ping-pong was “Go! Inaka Table Tennis Club”, but I can’t recommend it as a teaching tool because it is all about gags.

A highly acclaimed table tennis manga is “Ping Pong”.
Although the manga was made in the 90s, it was made into an anime in 2014 and has a huge following as well.
The same is true for the anime adaptation of “Burning Table Tennis Girl”, but despite the image of the competition, there are quite a lot of hot styles in it.

With the success of Kei Nishikori and Naomi Osaka, tennis is on the rise in Japan.
In the anime, “Ace wo Nerae! The Prince of Tennis,” a popular title from the past and still serialized in the series, stands out, but it’s not so good for grasping the proper rules of tennis.

A good way to prepare for the Olympics is “Baby Steps,” which was made into an anime on NHK.
Aside from the anime version, “BREAK BACK”, serialized in the monthly Shonen Champion series, has also received a lot of praise.
If you don’t care about the time period, works from the 90s such as “LOVe” and “Happy” are also excellent entertainment.

Volleyball

Volleyball is a popular ball game for both men and women, but in the anime and manga, men’s volleyball is more prominent.
The most popular is, of course, “Hi-Que! which has been produced for four seasons.
The other works that have been made into anime are limited to older works such as “Attack No. 1”, so we can see that it is extremely popular.

Aside from the anime adaptation, “Hariganee Service” and “God’s Valley” have been serialized for a long time, and they are very popular.
Shoujo Fight, which depicts women’s volleyball, is also famous.

Beach Volleyball

This ball game was derived from volleyball, but it has become an established sport that symbolizes summer.
Although the number of works is small, Kirara-style “Haruka Na Receive” has been made into an anime, and there are also manga such as “Beach Stars” and “Beach Succubus”.
Haruka Na Receive is a hot work that depicts authentic beach volleyball while the visuals of swimsuit-clad girls stand out.

Boxing

It is the most major sport in the martial arts world, and with current WBA World Middleweight Champion Ryota Murata winning a gold medal, boxing is also familiar as an Olympic sport in Japan.

Many of his boxing works, such as “Ashita no Joe”, “Ganbare Genki”, “Ring ni Kakero”, and “The First Step”, have been masterpieces since long ago, and especially “Joe and the First Step” was a big hit for many people.
In recent years, “Rikudou”, which was serialized in Yanjan, was also very popular.

Fencing

出典 : Amazon.co.jp

Japan is becoming one of the leading fencing countries in the world, winning the team competition at the World Cup, but there seems to be no anime version of the game.
There are a few manga as well, but “DUEL!” by Young Gun Gun Gun, “The Silver and White Paladin -The Holy Knight” by Sunday, “Ladies, Eto Vu Pre? and “Knights of Romance” for Ura-Sunday.
As of January 2020, there are unfortunately no current serialized works.

Judo

It’s a Japanese family tradition, and it’s always the first medal-winning event in the Olympics.
Many of his works are based on the theme of “YAWARA!” which was aired in primetime, “Obi wo Kyutto ne! Judo Club Story and Shin Kotaro Makarou! There are many highly acclaimed works such as “Judo Edition”.
The current serialized work, “Mo Ippon! is very popular.

karate

Karate is a sport unique to the Tokyo Olympics.
It is a familiar martial art in Japan, but there are surprisingly few works that deal with it, and the only one that has been made into an anime is “Karate Baka Ichidai” in the 1970s.
The most famous manga is “Karate Kobokiko Kohinata Kairyu” that was serialized in Yanmaga.

Taekwondo

出典 : Amazon.co.jp

This martial art originated in Korea and has a certain amount of fame in Japan as well.
There is no anime adaptation, but there is a manga called “Kicks Megamix” that deals with Tae Kwon Do.

The main character of the famous “Tae Kwon Do Park” is a Tae Kwon Do user, but it is not about Tae Kwon Do.

レスリング

出典 : Amazon.co.jp

Wrestling has produced numerous medalists and has a family tradition that rivals that of judo, but there have been a number of animations based on it, from “Kinniku Man” to “Hataage! Most of them deal with professional wrestling, up to and including “Kemonomichi”.
There are several manga that deal with the Olympic sport of amateur wrestling, but the most famous one is “Bullet Tackle”.
It’s drawn by someone with wrestling experience, so the content is quite authentic.
