First Love Limited. -Hatsuko Limited-

This is a romantic comedy, which had been expected to be the next work by Kawashita Mizuki, who had a huge hit with “Ichigo 100%”.
In fact, it was so popular that it became a rare work that was discontinued early despite the fact that it was a hit work that sold 850,000 copies in 4 volumes.

Looking at the order of publication, it held the middle rank when the series started, but after a while, it was published in the lower ranks, and the survey results seemed to be sluggish.
However, due to the success of the previous work and the strong sales of the first volume, it seems that an anime adaptation project was already underway, and it became an unusual situation where an anime adaptation was announced after the series ended due to the termination of the series.

Aka Akasaka Sensei, who achieved great success with “Kaguya-sama wa Tsutsumaseteitai”, serialized in Dengeki Maou from 2013 to 2015.
From that time, the style of the work was not royal but a little twisted, and the content had a sense of Akasaka-sensei’s style, and was ranked 13th in the “1st Next Manga Awards”, and there were high expectations for the work, but it did not become a long-running series.
With the success of Kaguya-sama, the manga is attracting attention again.

Captain Nishikida likes to be a thief

It is a gag-leaning romantic comedy that was serialized irregularly on Gessan since 2014.
Although the series ended in 2016, it was quite well received, and with the success of “Detective Conan: The Killer’s Gunsawa-san”, which author Mayuko Kanba-sensei has been working on since 2017, the work was also re-evaluated and did very well, placing third in the “Next Manga Awards 2018” and tenth in the “AnimeJapan 2019 Manga Ranking of Manga to be Animated”.
We may see a comeback serial one day.

I’m going to start today! This work was serialized in Sunday magazine from 2007 to 2009 by Hiroyuki Nishimori, the author of “Tenshi na kocasshi”.
The previous work “Doshiro de Goh” is the same, but I have the impression that it is not as successful as his representative work, and it ends up in a halfway point, although it has a certain popularity.
While this Ochanigosu is said to be a rehash of Today’s Me, there are still quite a few fans who wish they had read more of it because the women are cute and there are many attractive characters in the work.

Brave Catastrophe!

It was serialized in the monthly Shonen Gag King from 1994 to 1996 by Hiroyuki Makino, who had an ace reputation in Dragon Quest 4 Koma Manga Theater.
It was a manga that had the potential to become the second magic circle, but unfortunately it did not become a long-running series.
However, there are quite a few fans who remember this work, and it was reissued by Republishing.com in 2010.

How did I end up in the art department?

This four-panel manga was serialized in Manga Time Kirara MAX from 2016-2019.
Initially, it was the first in the order of publication, and was nominated for the Next Manga Awards 2018, and was a work that was seen as a strong candidate to be made into an anime, along with “Machikado Mazoku” and “Koisuru Asteroid”, but unfortunately, it ended after all three volumes.
The author, Aizaki Utau-sensei is currently working on a full scale serialization of the work “The Moon is Beautiful, So Steal It” at Kirara MAX.

This is a four-panel manga that was serialized on Manga Time Kirara Carat from 2015-2019.
This work was also expected by Kirara fans as a candidate work for an anime adaptation, but it didn’t come to fruition and reached its final volume in 4 volumes.
It takes a long time for the Kirara series to be published in comics, and even with the 4 volumes, the serialization period is 4 years long, so there is not much of a sense of cessation.

Wakaba Girl

出典 : Amazon.co.jp

It is a 4-panel manga that was started by Yui Hara sensei of “Kinlo Mosaic” in 2010, the same time as the start of the series.
It was published in a magazine called Otome Tsushin.
It seems to have been published from the first issue, but because the magazine stopped publishing after 3 issues, it was only serialized up to the 3rd episode and was discontinued regardless of its popularity.

It is a common story up to this point, but after Kinmoza became a hit, this work started to attract attention, and in 2015, it became an unexpected anime.
Although it is a short anime of 10 minutes, it has gained popularity, and for a work of one volume, it boasts an unprecedented name recognition, and even now, the topic of “Wakaba Girl was interesting” comes up periodically.

By the way, the director of this Wakaba Girl anime was Watanabe Seiji.
He is the person who later led “Re:Zero to Hajimaru Isekai Seikatsu” to be a big hit.
The series composition was created by Hanada Yuki and the character design was created by Ishida Kana, who is known for the original illustration of “Puella Magi High School’s Inferior Students”, a rather gorgeous staff.

Chagecha

It is a manga that attracted a lot of attention as the next work of Mr. Hiroo Sawai, who made “Bobo Bobo Bobo” a big hit.
However, it was not able to gain popularity, and it was terminated after 8 episodes.
It is the fastest censorship in the long history of jumping, and as of January 2020 this record has not been broken, and it is often referred to as the “legendary censored work”.

This film has only picked up on such a disgraceful record, but its content is in the same direction as Bobo Bobo Bobo, more of an absurd gag that makes no sense.
As you might expect, the reason for the loss is that it went too far.
After that, Sawai created a heartwarming daily life manga featuring characters from Bobo Bobo Bobo, called Fuwari! DONPACHI” and “HONNORI! His serialization of “DONPACHI” and a complete change in style and design became a hot topic of conversation.

Naivety Pine

出典 : Amazon.co.jp

This is the first serialized work by the prodigy Namie Odama-sensei, which was serialized in JUMP from 2000-2001.
Odama-sensei is a manga artist with a unique sense of gags, and he has gained tremendous support from some readers, but it is difficult to fully understand his sense of humor, and most of his works including this work, “Shonen Esper Nejime” and “Idol Jigoku Hen” were finished in a short period of time, and only “Mako-chan’s Lip Cream” was the only work that went over 10 volumes.

However, many people have fallen in love with his talent, and three of his works, Junjo Pineapple, Shonen Esper Nejime, and Idol Jigoku Hen, have been released in complete editions.
This is an unusual treatment for a censored manga, and he is a work and manga artist who still has a strong fan base today.

Summary

Some of the censored manga ended after a short run, while others were huge hits, but their popularity waned in their later years and they were called off against their will.
In this article, I’ve tried to pick only the former, and only works that didn’t have many volumes.

Of course, it’s not a good idea for authors to discontinue a work, and they may not want to be teased about a failed work forever, but the rush and confusion in the last half of the story is something that comes from discontinuing a work, and I think that’s what makes it so unique and attractive.
It’s one of those things that’s part of our culture!
