3期がなかった理由はラブライブのヒット?

The most common reason why blockbusters don’t produce a sequel right away is due to lack of stock.
If an anime with an original story, if there isn’t enough stock, they usually wait until it’s saved up.
There used to be a time when they would make it with an original story even if there wasn’t enough stock, but this has rarely been done in recent years because it is often antagonized by fans.
In the case of Sakai Hora, I digested up to volume 4 (Horizon on the Borderline II <bottom>) at the end of the second season’s broadcast, but at the time it had already been released to volume 11, so I had saved enough stock to produce two cool stories at that point.
Therefore, there’s no problem at all from the beginning as far as stock is concerned.
That’s where the staff problem is pointed out.
Of course, the staff didn’t declare that they didn’t want to make it.
There is a whisper among fans that it would be difficult to reunite the staff.
The company that produced the Sakai Hora anime is Sunrise’s No. 8 Studio.
This No. 8 Studio is actually the same studio that produced “Love Live! It’s also the company that produced the series.
Sunrise was originally famous for Gundam and other robot anime, but after Love Live became an explosive hit, the company has become known as “a company that works on various genres of anime with a focus on Love Live”.
It’s clear that Love Live is now the second pillar of content after Gundam.
In fact, Eighth Studio has only worked on a handful of other titles since 2013, when Love Live aired.
As long as they’re devoting resources to preparing a new anime, even if it’s just to promote the BD-BOX, it’s likely that the anime staff still has a lot of love for Sakai Hora.
It is said that Sunrise approached them to make the anime, and since it was a huge hit, the studio must have had a special attachment to the work.
However, it may be the company’s policy to give priority to Love Live.
What are the chances of a third season being made in the future?

As a matter of fact, the possibility of a third season of Sakai Hora being produced in the future is not high by normal standards.
Now that the original work has been completed, if they are going to make an anime sequel, they need to visualize the end of the story.
However, it would take at least 8 cool years to make an anime of this epic story that has 25 volumes left to go and is 3 to 4 times thicker than a normal light novel. (This would still be a moot point.)
Dengeki Bunko’s “Durarara! was produced five years after the first season, and after the original story was completed, the second season was split into three cool seasons, but even this is a very rare case.
When it is more than twice that long, it is not realistic to make it happen.
On the other hand, there has been some movement that makes us hope that it might be made into an anime.
In February 2020, a book called “GENESIS Series Horizon on the Edge of the Border Next Box: Introduction Edition” will be released.
This is the book version of Horizon on the Borderline NEXT BOX, the story after the end of the book, which is serialized by the author Kawakami-san on the novel submission site Kakuyom.
It’s also a reboot project of the smartphone game OO-Formation: The King and the Eight Friends, which was released in 2017-2018.
The likelihood of this NEXT BOX becoming a standalone anime is hard to say at this point, as it has a lot to do with the sales of the book version.
However, the publication of a sequel like this could be a flag for a re-animation.
For example, “Magical Guru Guru” was also re-animated after the sequel began to be serialized.
Therefore, it is possible that a new animation project will be launched instead of a third season.
Now that we have entered the 2020s, it is no surprise that the 2010s anime has been remade.
In the case of a remake, there is the option of changing the staff and cast, which would make it easier to launch a project.
However, there are no remakes that have ever been successful, and there’s a risk that fans who are deeply attached to the previous series may not like it.
There’s a tremendous amount of material on this series, and it would take a lot of time to understand it, so replacing staff is a risky proposition.
Nevertheless, I’m sure there are more than a few fans who say, “If I can see Sakai Hora’s anime, I don’t mind if it’s a little different from my ideal.
If those voices are heard, it’s not impossible to make it happen.
Summary
Since it’s such a hit, I thought that if we waited, a third season would come at some point, but it’s already been over 7 years since the second season aired.
I can’t just go anywhere as long as they make a new work…….I’d like to ask Sunrise to do something about it.
In this day and age when it’s hard to produce a hit series, there’s no way to not make an anime of a work that has so many fans!
