Rumiko Takahashi’s complete works! Let’s take a look back at the Rummikwardo

Ranma 1/2

In 1987, Urusei-Tome-Zon ended at about the same time, and the whole country fell into a “Rummikku loss”.
However, that period of time was very short.
In the same year, a new serialization of “Ranma 1/2” started in Sunday magazine.

The basic line is a slapstick romantic comedy following the Urusei style, but most of the main characters in this work are skilled fighters with unique martial arts, as represented by the main character Ranma Saotome, and the two main elements of the story are love and fighting.
The most distinctive feature of this work is also Ranma’s constitution: “When he covers himself with water, he becomes a woman, and when he covers himself with hot water, he reverts to a man”.
Female characters like a man and male characters like a woman have often appeared in manga of that time such as Urusei no Ryunosuke, but there is no precedent for a manga where a character changes gender multiple times in a work, and even now this work is so well known that it is the first thing that comes to mind when talking about TS works.

Unlike Urusei, which had a desire for a harem but was not really a harem, this work has many female characters that make advances to Ranma, and as a genre, it belongs to the harem type.
Also, in the latter half of the story, Ranma’s narcissistic side becomes more emphasized and his taste changes a little bit even though they are on the same romantic comedy line.
This change was also evident in the readership, and the popularity of women increased in the second half of the series.

As a result, this work was supported by a wider range of readers than Urusei, and the 38 volumes (38 new volumes and 20 special editions) sold 55 million copies, making it the biggest hit of Takahashi-sensei’s works.
On the other hand, the anime as a whole, which started in 1989, didn’t get as many viewers as before, and it became the biggest hit of all. The highest rating was only 16.1% because it had become

In fact, it was published in Weekly Young Sunday as a new work earlier than Ranma.
However, at that time, it was only a collection of the first and second part of the story, and it became a series after Ranma’s series started.
It is an irregular series, but the storyline is more continuous than the mermaid series, so it is often included in the list of serialized works.

It is a manga about boxing, but it is not a full-blown boxing manga, and the main focus is a romantic comedy between the main character, Kosaku Hatanaka (Kosaku Hatanaka), who is a boxer but does not have an ounce of stoicism, and the serious and uptight Sister Angela (Marie Marino).
In a normal boxing manga, the protagonist usually wins most of the time and rarely loses fights, but Kosaku loses frequently in the story, and this is one of the main features of the work.

The volume itself is compact at four volumes, but because it was published on an irregular basis, the series lasted a whopping 20 years.
Even the most ardent fan of Mr. Takahashi’s work may not have expected it to be completed.

It is one of the more subdued works of Lumikku, so it may not be considered a big seller, but it is a great hit, with 2.3 million copies sold in 4 volumes.
It has not been made into a TV anime, but it was made into an OVA in 1988 and a drama in 2008.

Inuyasha

After Ranma’s serialization ended in 1996, even Takahashi-sensei felt that he had done everything he could, and he hadn’t come up with a plan for the next installment.
However, there was no way the Sunday editors could leave a god with a 100% hit rate to chance, and in the course of the meeting a “large scale historical drama set in the Warring States period” was created, and the character Inuyasha, a half-demon born between a monster and a human, was born.
In this way, Inuyasha was created in 56 volumes (30 wide editions), which is the largest volume in the works of Professor Takahashi.

It is clearly different in style from the past Sunday serialized works of Urusei Ranma, and although it is sprinkled with gags and light depictions, the story is consistently a serious adventure action drama.
Inuyasha loses Kikyo, a maiden he once loved and was sealed by Naraku, but Kikyo’s reincarnation, Kagome Higurashi, travels back in time to the Warring States period and breaks the seal on him.
Kagome and her companions along the way, including Miroku and Coral, travel with Kagome to collect the “Jewel of the Four Souls”, which was born inside her body and accidentally scattered to various places, in order to collect the “Jewel of the Four Souls”, which will make all wishes come true.

One of the main features of this work is the team of handsome male characters.
In particular, Inuyasha and his older brother Sesshomaru are extremely popular, with Inuyasha coming in first overall and Sesshomaru coming in third in the character category of the 2019 “All-Rumikku Anime Grand Vote” conducted by NHK.

For these reasons, the fans of the series were overwhelmingly female, and it seems that there were quite a few ardent supporters of the series.
The TV anime ended in 2004 and the series came to an end in 2008, but there was no end to the requests to make it into an anime, and in response to those requests, “Inuyasha: The Final Episode” was broadcasted between 2009 and 2010.

The total number of copies sold was 45 million.
The highest rating of the anime was 17.9%.
