[Failed Knight’s Heroic Tale] A thorough examination of the possibility of a second season! Are GA library works more likely to be made into sequels?

Is the GA library more likely to produce a second season?

GA Bunko, the publisher of Losing Knights, has adapted 14 works into TV anime by March 2020.
Of those, the second season was produced for “Shinkyoku Kanoukai Polyphonika”, “Haiyore! Nyaruko-san” and “Is it wrong to seek encounters in dungeons?
The second season of “Goblin Slayer” has not yet been announced, but a sequel OVA has been produced for theatrical screening.

What all four films have in common is that they are not blockbusters that have sold over 10,000 copies.
Polyphonica was a media mix project with the main focus on video games, so it wouldn’t be surprising if a second season was produced regardless of disc sales, but other than that, Nyaruko and Danmachi only sold about 5,000 copies, and Gobsule sold around 4,000 copies.
That’s pretty close to the production line for a second season, but they are actively making sequels to those works.

From this past precedent, GA Bunko can be said to be an easy label to produce a second season.

However, no sequel has been made to “The Ambition of Oda Nobuna” which sold 4700 copies on average.
In addition, sales of the disc, the original work, and the number of views of the Biri Biri Video are all almost the same as that of “Ri”. The Work of the Middle! Also, there is currently no announcement for a second season.
Therefore, it seems that even in the case of the current fall line, they are not necessarily making a sequel.

If there is a second season, what is the scope?

The first season of the Fallen Knight anime has been visualized in the range of the original three volumes.
As of March 2020, it has been released up to volume 17, so there are no stock issues whatsoever.
The key question here is, if a second season is made, how far will it be animated?

Digesting up to three volumes in one cool season is a standard progression speed for anime adaptations of ronobe works, and it was a nice break in the storyline, so few fans were likely to complain.
However, at the same time, since the anime adaptation took place right before the Seven Star Sword Festival took place, there were quite a few people who wanted the Seven Star Sword Festival version to be animated to the end.

In fact, the most highly praised match of the series by fans was the final match of the Nansei Kenbutsai, Ikki vs. Stella.
The battle between the hero and the main heroine, in addition to the intensity of the finals, is a serious battle between the hero and the main heroine, where the hero and the main heroine are fighting for victory with everything they have, and without any guile.
There are countless battles in the ranobe genre and many great battles have been created, but this is definitely one of the best battles of them all.

If this match is not made into a movie, for example, if it is made into an anime that runs to six volumes per season at the same pace as the first season, it will inevitably feel half-hearted and fans will not be satisfied.
Therefore, if a sequel to Failed Knight is to be made, it must be broadcasted in 2 seasons.
This point may lead to raising the bar for making a sequel.

If a TV anime is difficult to make, in recent years, there is the option of limited distribution.

Otherworldly Izakaya~Anotherworldly Izakaya Nobu (Original title: Otherworldly Izakaya “Nobu”)” and “A Certain Zombie Girl’s Misfortune” have been adapted into anime with limited distribution.
Although it is a manga original work, there is a precedent of adapting a story that was not done in the TV series into an anime with limited distribution by Netflix, such as “The Crucible of Kusunao Saiki”.
Therefore, it is expected that there will be more and more anime with limited distribution, and there is a good chance that the series will be joined in the line-up of “Failed Knight” which has achieved a certain amount of success in terms of views.

Summary

The first season of the anime was very good, and director Sillynn & Onuma did a great job of making the battle scenes look unbelievable.
I’d love to see this combination make an anime adaptation of the Seven Stars Sword Festival!

On the other hand, in almost the same situation, “Riou no Oshiji! The fact that there is no second season of the series is a cause for concern.
This one has been doing quite well in sales of the original work after the anime adaptation, and the effects of the anime have been strong, so I can’t help but think that if they still haven’t made a second season, it may be a bit of a tough sell.

Still, I’m hoping GA Bunko will make a wise decision!
